LEARNING ICE SKATING | Some easy steps

We decided to learn how to skate on ice, so we are ready to dive into a new adventure. Here are some tips to be prepared and then make the experience easier and more enjoyable.

First of all, we have to choose clothing that is suitable for the harsh winter temperatures, which is comfortable and does not prevent us from moving; protect the parts of the body that will be more stressed by falls (and we will fall, there are no doubts!) as elbows, wrists and knees.

We also try to have the right skate: too tight means less freedom of movement, too wide compromises the skating giving instability to the foot.

The first step is to get balance on the skates, better if a friend could help us, or we can use the edge of the track until we feel comfortable. We always keep the knees slightly bent, the shoulders forward, in line with the knees: these aspects help us to improve the feeling and avoid ruinous falls.

After these few steps, it's time to start getting serious: first small steps, short and close together, then we'll try to lengthen our skating. Then, it is essential to be able to control the movement, especially not to harm others: before starting to twirl, therefore, it is better if we also learn to brake ...
